To reduce instances of crimes occurring during online transactions, the Anderson County, S.C. Sheriff's Office has teamed up with SafeTrade. The sheriff's office has designated two parking spots at the front left of its parking lot as "SafeTrade Zones," where buyers and sellers can conduct transactions at a location under surveillance from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the wake of an online transaction that ended in a shooting that left two men wounded, Richland County (S.C.) Sheriff Leon Lott is reminding citizens that the Sheriff's Department offers Internet Exchange Safety Zones for citizens to utilize as public exchange locations for those who buy, sell or exchange items via social media.
The Safe Zones are also for child drop off/pick up for those who are co-parenting. The Sheriff’s Department has set up “Internet Exchange Safety Zone” signs at five of its eight regions throughout Richland County. Read more here. Moncks Corner police are offering locals a safer alternative to exchanging items bought and sold online, following recent robberies over online deals.
